WhatsApp Beta for Mac Introduces User-Controlled Update Frequency Options

WhatsApp has started rolling out a new feature for beta users on Mac computers that allows them to control the frequency of app updates. This new screen, found under a section called "App updates" in the app settings, lets users choose between receiving new versions daily or weekly. The daily option, called "Latest version," provides almost daily updates that may include bug fixes, stability improvements, and early access to new features, though these versions might be less stable due to ongoing development. The weekly option, "Stable weekly version," consolidates fixes into a single update released typically before the weekend, offering a more stable and predictable experience, especially suited for work use.

Users can see their current version number and manually check for updates without waiting for the automatic check. They can switch between the two update tracks at any time without reinstalling the app. This feature follows WhatsApp's earlier discontinuation of its Mac beta program via TestFlight, though beta versions remain available for download from official servers. Currently, the update control feature is being gradually distributed to some beta users on Mac, with no official timeline for full rollout or availability in the regular version. Users who do not yet see the "App updates" section will need to wait for broader deployment in the coming weeks.
