Hezbollah Continues Re-arming and Expanding in Southern Lebanon Amid Israel-Lebanon Talks

Despite ongoing seventh-round negotiations between Israel and Lebanon, Hezbollah is actively re-establishing its presence and military capabilities in southern Lebanon. The organization exploits civilian mechanisms and unsecured routes to return forces and consolidate critical infrastructure in the so-called pilot villages. Lebanese Army efforts to counter Hezbollah face significant enforcement challenges, including two recent confrontations and reluctance among soldiers to search Hezbollah-controlled buildings due to fears of booby traps.

Hezbollah operates under the cover of its longstanding "Islamic Health Organization," a civilian front that allows it to maintain activities covertly. Intelligence reveals that Hezbollah continues to receive lethal Iranian weaponry through various crossings, notably via the al-Tanf crossing on the Iraq-Syria border. This route, primarily used for fuel smuggling, is exploited to transport arms into Lebanon, making it the shortest and fastest supply line from Iran to Hezbollah since the U.S. military withdrawal and the rise of the Assad regime.

The smuggled weapons include drones, fiber optic infrastructure, and RPG warheads, all contributing to Hezbollah's renewed military buildup against Israel. Despite political talks and purported understandings, the operational and intelligence realities on the ground indicate that Hezbollah's rearmament and infiltration efforts remain unchecked. The conclusion is unequivocal: the security mission in Lebanon is far from complete.
