Nearly 100 Sderot Hesder Yeshiva Students Enlist Together in Combat Engineering

Almost 100 students from the Hesder Yeshiva in Sderot gathered at the Tel Hashomer recruitment office on Tuesday to enlist in the IDF's Combat Engineering Corps. After two years of Torah study, spiritual preparation, and social bonding, the students boarded buses with a strong sense of mission and determination to serve the people of Israel. In an interview with Channel 7, two of the recruits explained that their time in yeshiva provided more than just military readiness; it was a period of internal growth and spiritual strengthening under the guidance of their rabbis, who emphasized the importance of enlisting together.

One recruit noted that their preparation included physical, mental, and spiritual readiness, while his friend highlighted how the yeshiva experience reinforced their faith and ethics alongside their physical training. The group, consisting of nearly 100 young men divided into three units, supports each other and views their service as a contribution to the entire Jewish people. They stressed that their enlistment is about giving back to the nation after enduring multiple wars and challenges.

When asked about their military aspirations, one recruit modestly said the immediate goal is to complete the initial training, though many friends have worked hard to raise their medical profiles to qualify for combat roles. They see their service as both a great privilege and a significant mitzvah. Despite the excitement, the recruits acknowledged the natural worries of their families, who understand the importance of their mission. One recruit shared that his parents, both with military backgrounds, instilled in him the value of dedication to the country.
