US Nearly Depletes Stockpile of Long-Range Precision Missiles Amid Iran Conflict

The United States has reportedly used nearly all of its long-range ground-to-ground precision missile stockpiles, including ATACMS and Precision Strike Missiles (PrSM), during the five-month conflict with Iran. This significant depletion, revealed for the first time, raises serious concerns within the US defense establishment about military readiness for potential future confrontations with major powers such as Russia and China. The conflict, initiated by President Trump alongside Israel in February with expectations of a swift resolution, has led to dramatic wear on missile inventories.

In addition to ground missiles, the US has expended just under half of its global Tomahawk cruise missile stock, which are launched from naval vessels. Government officials are reportedly debating how long Washington can sustain such strikes. A recent report from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) corroborates these figures, noting that approximately 65% of Patriot missile interceptors and at least 38% of THAAD ballistic missile interceptors were used between February and July.

Sources close to the matter indicate that the Trump administration deliberately limited riskier attack methods, such as deploying manned fighter jets. In response to these disclosures, the White House issued a statement from President Trump asserting that the US possesses "more ammunition than anyone else in the world," with defense contractors ramping up weapons production at record speeds. Pentagon spokesperson Sean Spanel emphasized that the US military remains the strongest globally and is fully equipped to carry out its missions, while companies like Lockheed Martin and Raytheon are expanding production lines and securing new supply contracts.
