Security Forces Rescue Toddler After Car Theft Sparks Kidnapping Fears in West Bank Village

On Monday night in the Arab village of Nabi Elias in the West Bank, a car was stolen while a young girl was asleep inside. The girl's father had briefly exited the vehicle for a few seconds to drop off clothes at a local dry cleaner, leaving the child unattended in the back seat. The thief quickly seized the opportunity, jumped into the driver's seat, and sped away. The father immediately chased after the car on foot and was joined by a bystander in a dramatic pursuit.

The incident quickly escalated into a major security alert due to fears of a possible kidnapping, prompting the deployment of extensive military and police forces. Checkpoints were established and wide-area searches were conducted throughout the region. Approximately 20 minutes after the theft, the girl was found unharmed in the center of the village after the thief had forcibly removed her from the vehicle and fled toward the nearby village of Azun.

The family, Arab-Israeli and returning from a multi-day vacation in the Dead Sea, Jericho, Ramallah, and Nablus areas, reported that the suspect is known locally for similar car thefts. The father obtained security footage showing the suspect attempting another car theft earlier that day. He publicly demanded the immediate return of the vehicle and warned that if the car is not returned, he will involve all enforcement agencies, including the Israeli police, IDF, and Palestinian authorities, to ensure full accountability for the theft and the distress caused to his family.
