Israeli Student Turns Summer Break Into Torah Study Journey with Digital Learning Initiative

Roy Hajbi, a student from Bnei Dekalim, shared his experience participating in the "Yomi" project by Hamachmad, which encourages voluntary Torah study during summer vacation. He emphasized that learning without a mandatory framework transforms study into a meaningful personal choice, enhancing connection and understanding. The program offers daily explanations, progress tracking, and reminders, making the material more accessible and motivating continued study.

Roy described how he committed to studying one page of the Talmud daily starting July 1, culminating in completing the Makkot tractate on Tisha B'Av, which he viewed as a providential milestone. He plans to continue this personalized study routine during the school year, supported by daily phone reminders and the option to earn points and prizes, including a drone he won through the initiative.

Addressing the role of technology, Roy highlighted its positive potential in Torah learning, noting he developed an app for his community and proposed integrating digital tools to enhance study. He argued that screens can be more than entertainment; they can facilitate efficient and engaging access to religious texts. For Roy, summer break is not just rest but an opportunity for spiritual growth through dedicated learning.
