Northern Israel Launches Major Grant Program to Boost Small Businesses in Galilee
The economic resilience of small businesses in northern Israel has been severely tested in recent years due to ongoing conflict, evacuations, a sharp decline in tourism, and plummeting revenues. In response, a new flagship regional initiative called "For the North" has been launched to shift from temporary aid to long-term economic growth infrastructure. This project is a strategic collaboration between Mifal HaPais, the Ruach HaGalil initiative, and the Galilee Development Authority.
Following a successful first phase supporting dozens of businesses, the program is now expanding to reach hundreds of small and medium enterprises across the Galilee, Golan Heights, and the valleys. The goal is to strengthen the local economy, encourage entrepreneurship, and create new growth engines throughout the region. It offers comprehensive professional and business support including courses, workshops, personal mentoring in business, finance, and marketing, as well as regional networking opportunities.
Selected businesses participating in the program will receive financial startup grants to implement practical projects. There are two main tracks for applications: one for small businesses aiming to develop new initiatives or products, and another focused on tourism-related enterprises seeking to create events and attractions to boost visitor numbers. Additionally, specialized professional courses will be offered on topics such as AI for business, digital marketing, crisis management, and product development, though these do not include grants.
Key leaders emphasize the program’s importance for the region’s recovery and future. Mifal HaPais chairman Itzik Lari highlighted the resilience of northern businesses and the need to help them thrive beyond mere survival. Social entrepreneur and philanthropist Raaya Strauss, founder of Ruach HaGalil, called the Galilee the "beating heart of the country" and stressed the initiative’s role in securing the region’s economic future. Galilee Development Authority CEO Yachin Zik underscored the strategic cooperation and broad eligibility map, inviting all licensed businesses in the area to apply and contribute to shaping the economic future.
