Mohammed Abu Fani signs three-year deal with Red Star Belgrade
Israeli midfielder Mohammed Abu Fani has officially joined Red Star Belgrade after weeks of reports, the Serbian champions announced on Saturday, June 13, 2026. He signed a three-year contract with an option for an additional season and will wear No. 15.
Red Star, one of Europe’s current in-form clubs, said it moved for Abu Fani at the urging of coach Dejan Stankovic, who previously coached him at Ferencvaros. Stankovic also knows Abu Fani from the Champions League playoff tie in which Maccabi Haifa eliminated Red Star, after which Stankovic was dismissed.
Abu Fani is set to earn about 750,000 euros per season, while Red Star will pay Ferencvaros roughly 1.5 million euros for his transfer. He had previously been sold by Maccabi Haifa for a similar fee, and his wage in Hungary had been expected to be around 600,000 euros this season.
Red Star finished last season as Serbian league champions with 86 points, 12 ahead of second-place Vojvodina. The Belgrade club has now won 37 league titles overall, including eight straight in recent years.
