Ferencváros Officially Parts Ways With Mohamed Abu Fani, Set for Red Star Belgrade
Ferencváros announced on Saturday night that it has officially parted ways with Israeli midfielder Mohamed Abu Fani, who is on his way to Red Star Belgrade. The club said the 28-year-old, who arrived from Maccabi Haifa in June 2023, leaves Hungary after three successful seasons.
In its farewell message, Ferencváros called him “one of the fans’ greatest favorites” and highlighted several memorable moments, including his Europa League goal against Viktoria Plzen on February 13, 2025, and his striking derby goal against Ujpest, which turned out to be his last in the club shirt. The club also noted that his first official appearance came in the home second leg of the Champions League qualifying round against Klaksvik from the Faroe Islands, and that his first goal came in continental competition on August 10, 2023, in a 6-1 away win over Hamrun Spartans of Malta.
Abu Fani, who has 33 caps for Israel, scored all four of his international goals while playing for Ferencváros, and two of them came in official matches in Hungary. Over three seasons, he made 133 official appearances for the club, scored 14 goals and added 29 assists.
He leaves Ferencváros with two league titles and one cup, after the club lost this season’s championship to surprise winners Győr. During his time there, he was also chosen three times as the fans’ player of the month. The club thanked him for his contribution and wished him success at his next stop.
