Ferencváros Officially Parts Ways with Mohammed Abu Fani Ahead of Red Star Move
Ferencváros announced on Saturday night that it has officially parted ways with Israeli midfielder Mohammed Abu Fani, who is on his way to Red Star Belgrade. The club said he was leaving after three seasons, calling him “one of the biggest fan favorites.” Abu Fani, 28, arrived from Maccabi Haifa in June 2023.
According to the Hungarian club, Abu Fani left after winning three trophies with Ferencváros, before the team lost this season’s league title to surprise champions Győr. The club highlighted several memorable moments, including his Europa League goal against Plzen on February 13, 2025, and the strike in the recent derby against Újpest, which turned out to be his last in the green-and-white shirt.
Ferencváros also noted that Abu Fani made his first official appearance for the club in a home Champions League qualifying second leg against Klaksvik from the Faroe Islands. His first goal for the team came in European competition as well, in a 6-1 away win over Hibernians Spartans from Malta on August 10, 2023.
Over three seasons, Abu Fani played 133 official matches for Ferencváros, scoring 14 goals and adding 29 assists. He also earned 33 caps for Israel, and all four of his international goals were scored while he was a Ferencváros player. The midfielder leaves with two league titles and a cup, and he was named the fans’ player of the month three times.
