Mohammed Abu Fani Signs Three-Year Deal with Red Star Belgrade

Mohammed Abu Fani has officially joined Red Star Belgrade, the Serbian champions, after weeks of reports. The Israeli midfielder signed a three-year contract with an option to extend and will wear No. 15. Red Star presented him on Saturday, June 13, 2026, and he is set to link up with Lázslo Lóvszó, according to the report.

The move was pushed by Red Star coach Dejan Stanković, who previously coached Abu Fani at Ferencváros. Stanković was also on the losing side when Abu Fani helped Maccabi Haifa eliminate Red Star from the Champions League playoff round, a defeat that later cost Stanković his job after the two-leg tie against the Greens.

Abu Fani will reportedly earn about 750,000 euros per season, while Red Star will pay around 1.5 million euros to Ferencváros for his transfer. He had previously been sold by Maccabi Haifa for roughly the same fee, and his salary in Hungary had been expected to be about 600,000 euros this season.

Red Star finished last season as Serbian league champions with 86 points, 12 more than runner-up Vojvodina. The Belgrade club has now won 37 league titles overall, including eight straight in recent years.
