Maccabi Tel Aviv Nears Roster Finalization Amid Key Scorer Uncertainty

With just two and a half weeks until Maccabi Tel Aviv's training camp opens, the team is close to finalizing its roster but faces a major question mark at the scorer position, which was only partially filled by Loni Walker last season. The club is expected to soon announce the signing of Armando Bacot, who agreed to terms last week, and Daniel Teiss's arrival is also anticipated after final approval from Villeurbanne. These additions will complete the frontcourt alongside Roman Sorkin, Jalen Hood-Schifino, T.J. Leaf, and Shane Hunter. However, Leaf is unlikely to start training due to a shoulder injury that sidelined him for much of last season, and Gur Lavi may also miss the season start because of a knee injury.

The main uncertainty revolves around Walker, whose representatives have indicated that a EuroLeague move is increasingly likely, with Partizan Belgrade and Dubai as leading candidates. Maccabi has communicated the financial terms they are willing to meet, suggesting money will not block Walker's potential transfer. Should Walker leave, Maccabi plans to quickly sign a guard. Armoni Brooks expressed interest in joining but cited security concerns as a major obstacle unless an unexpected change occurs.

Maccabi is exploring several alternatives for the scorer role, including Kyler Edwards, who played last season for Hapoel HaEmek and was previously linked to Hapoel Tel Aviv. Edwards is considered a relatively affordable EuroLeague player with potential to become a key contributor, similar to Jimmy Clark. Other candidates include Jamir Young, who has spent the past two years in the development league. The club continues to evaluate options to solidify this critical position before the season begins.
