Iranian President Urges US to Honor June Memorandum Amid Rising Regional Tensions

Iranian President Masoud Pezhkian has called on the United States to strictly adhere to the commitments outlined in the memorandum of understanding signed between the two countries in June. In a social media statement, Pezhkian emphasized Tehran's determination to compel Washington to comply with the agreement, which he said would enhance the security of Iran, the region, and its allies. He also noted that the entire Iranian Supreme National Security Council supports this unified stance, indicating broad backing from the country's senior security leadership.

The June memorandum reportedly emerged from talks between Washington and Tehran, with former US President Donald Trump announcing an agreement related to the Strait of Hormuz and hinting at a forthcoming nuclear deal. Trump mentioned in a recent press briefing that negotiations were ongoing and that several Gulf states, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, and Iran, had requested a pause in planned military strikes.

Pezhkian's statement comes amid escalating tensions between Israel and the US over Iran policy. Senior Israeli officials have publicly criticized Trump's approach, claiming it harms the Israel Defense Forces and describing the situation as "walking in the dark" due to last-minute US decisions made without full coordination. A security source revealed that the US twice informed Israel of planned strikes that could destabilize the Middle East but canceled them abruptly without explanation.
