Israeli Man Faces Charges for Raping Ex-Partner in Front of Their Daughter in Jaffa

The police have filed a prosecutorial statement against a 26-year-old man from Jaffa, accusing him of sexually assaulting and raping his former partner in their home while their minor daughter witnessed the attack. The incident occurred on July 21, and a severe indictment along with a request for detention until the end of legal proceedings is expected to be submitted in the coming days. The suspect was arrested following the victim's complaint to the Jaffa police.

This case follows a recent precedent set by the Central District Court, which sentenced 23-year-old Barkat Abu Esa from Tel Sheva to 21 years in prison for a similarly severe rape case in Gedera in February 2023. Abu Esa was also convicted of abusing the victim's two-year-old son, who was present during the assault, and ordered to pay 200,000 shekels in compensation to the victim and her child.

The indictment detailed Abu Esa's violent intrusion into the victim's home while wearing a mask and armed with duct tape, which he used to restrain her. He threatened to kill her if she screamed, assaulted her in front of her toddler, and raped her after binding her knees and ankles. The court recognized the presence of the child during the assault as a form of abuse itself, marking a significant legal stance. The victim's family expressed shock and fear, emphasizing the clear intent behind the attack.

Prosecutors Einat Benita and Tal Shiloni Gefen highlighted the gravity of the crime and praised the victim's courageous testimony, hoping the sentence will provide some solace and aid in her recovery. The case underscores ongoing concerns about domestic violence and child exposure to traumatic events in Israel.
