4-Year-Old Boy Dies After Drowning in Ashkelon
Joaad Mohammad Abu Madigam, a 4-year-old boy from Rahat, drowned to death on Saturday in Ashkelon. He was pulled from the water unconscious near Delilah Beach, and Magen David Adom teams rushed to treat him and evacuate him to Barzilai Hospital in critical condition while performing CPR. Despite the resuscitation efforts, doctors later pronounced him dead.
MDA paramedics Steve Berman and Israel Lugasi, together with medic Itzik Elimelech, said they were nearby when civilians brought the child ashore without a pulse or breathing and called for help. They said they immediately began life-saving treatment that included chest compressions, ventilations and medication, then transported him in an intensive care ambulance while continuing CPR.
The drowning came after a deadly day on Israel’s roads, when three people were killed in about seven hours in three separate crashes in northern Israel. Police traffic investigators opened inquiries into the circumstances of the accidents.
