Israeli Cyber Defense Acknowledges Daily Attacks Following Iranian Cyber Assault on US Water Systems

Following reports of an Iranian cyberattack targeting water systems in seven US states, Israel's National Cyber Directorate confirmed it faces daily cyber threats across all sectors. It noted that Israel has experienced numerous Iranian cyberattack attempts on its water sector over recent years but has successfully prevented significant damage.

The Directorate stated it continues to work with water sector entities to implement protective measures, assess preparedness based on new intelligence, and strengthen sector resilience. It highlighted the importance of rapid learning, information sharing, and incorporating lessons from global cyber events to stay ahead of threats.

In the US, officials reported that although the Iranian cyberattack affected water system controls in seven states, there was no evidence of disrupted water supply or contamination. State and local authorities prepared for potential issues involving computer systems that monitor water quality, chemical treatment levels, and pressure. US experts described the attack as nearly unprecedented, while investigations remain ongoing and no definitive attribution to Iran has yet been confirmed.
