Iran Mocks Trump After US Cancels Attack, Calls It Another False Threat

Following US President Donald Trump's announcement canceling a planned attack on Iran overnight between Saturday and Sunday, Iranian media and officials ridiculed the move as another American retreat. Iranian state-affiliated outlets portrayed Trump as backing down from his threats once again, with one senior Iranian figure dismissing his claims as "fake news."

Mohammad Marandi, a former advisor to Iran's negotiation team with the US, tweeted sarcastically that "everyone now knows this is fake news, Trump has retreated." Iranian news agencies IRNA and Fars framed Trump's cancellation as a repeated pattern of withdrawal from his military threats against Iran. Fars mocked Trump's explanation that he canceled the attack for the world's benefit and to protect Iran, highlighting his contradictory statements about agreements with Iran and demands to open the Strait of Hormuz and end Iran's nuclear threat.

Kayhan, a conservative Iranian newspaper aligned with the regime, accused Trump of retreating after a week of false declarations, suggesting this was part of a recurring game. The paper cited reports of US air defense depletion in the region and called on Iranian officials to change the rules of engagement and reject any negotiations or agreements, questioning why Iran had not declared a halt to talks if Trump claimed a deal was near.

Meanwhile, Iranian military sources emphasized their forces remain on high alert and prepared for any scenario. They rejected Trump's claim that Iran requested to stop attacks, calling it a "new lie" and an attempt to pressure Gulf rulers. They warned that if conflict becomes unavoidable, the battlefield will determine who holds power and who will have the final say.
