Israeli President Herzog Credits Trump for Hostage Return, Criticizes ICC Prosecutor Khan

Israeli President Isaac Herzog spoke to Fox News over the weekend, addressing several key issues including the recent removal of ICC Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan. Herzog accused Khan of attempting to distract from his own criminal allegations by filing arrest warrants against Israeli leaders, including former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and ex-Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, just as Khan was scheduled to visit Israel. Herzog called Khan's dismissal a just decision and urged the ICC to drop the case entirely, warning against falling for what he described as Khan's lies and hatred.

Herzog also condemned New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani for what he called anti-Semitic rhetoric and disrespect for Jewish self-determination. He referenced a recent stabbing attack in New York targeting an Orthodox Jew, warning that Mamdani's stance endangers the safety of his own citizens.

On Iran, Herzog described the regime as a longstanding strategic threat not only to Israel and the Middle East but to global stability. He highlighted Iran’s funding of terrorism worldwide, its missile program, nuclear ambitions, and internal repression as evidence of this danger.

Regarding Gaza, Herzog expressed hope for a significant breakthrough in the conflict, referencing the UN Security Council-approved 20-point plan proposed by former US President Donald Trump. He emphasized the necessity of disarming Hamas to prevent Gaza from remaining a terror base and called on Gaza’s residents to take control of their future by dismantling the terrorist organization.

Herzog praised Trump’s strong support for Israel, both rhetorically and practically, particularly crediting him for his role in securing the release of 255 hostages held by Hamas after the October 7, 2023 terror attack. While acknowledging the efforts of many involved, Herzog singled out Trump’s negotiation skills as instrumental in bringing the hostages home.
