Viral Mexico fan clip misled social media, then its real origin emerged
A viral clip of a scantily dressed Mexico fan celebrating a goal set off a wave of confusion online, with many users assuming it was filmed during Mexico’s 2-0 win over South Africa in the opening match of the 2026 World Cup. The short video quickly drew hundreds of thousands of views and endless reactions as people repeated the mistaken claim.
The footage actually shows Olivia Bethel and Magaly Medina, two well-known adult-content creators, jumping with joy after a Mexico goal. During the celebration, Medina’s shirt slipped out of place and she quickly covered herself, which fueled the clip’s popularity and the false assumption that it came from the World Cup.
In reality, the video was recorded at last year’s Gold Cup. The confusion spread after Bethel reposted it on TikTok with the caption, “Take me back to these winning vibes,” along with red heart emojis in the colors of the Mexican flag. That repost led many users to believe it was fresh footage from the World Cup opener.
Despite the misunderstanding, the two did follow Mexico’s World Cup opener as well. Bethel wore the same attention-grabbing outfit, but watched the match from a bar with other fans rather than from the stadium. Medina also appeared in similar clothing while watching the game and later posted additional photos and videos from the evening, as online attention focused more on them than on the match itself.
