'I'm from the future': World Cup ‘time traveler’ sparks frenzy with Mexico prediction

A TikTok user calling himself “Tuna Multiverso” and describing himself as a “time traveler” has gone viral with a prediction for the 2026 World Cup. He says Mexico will beat Argentina in the final on July 19 in New York, where the match would end 1-1 after extra time and then be decided by a penalty shootout after Argentina misses its last kick.

If that were to happen, it would be Mexico’s first ever World Cup title. The forecast, however, clashes with the tournament’s current standings and bracket. Mexico has already secured first place in Group A, while Argentina has secured first place in Group J, meaning the two teams could meet as early as the semifinals, not in the final as the video claims.

Even so, the clip has drawn hundreds of thousands of views, largely because Mexico has impressed so far in the home tournament. Historically, though, the scenario looks far-fetched. Mexico has never advanced beyond the quarterfinals at a World Cup, and the last time it reached that stage was in 1986. The question now is whether the viral prediction will prove prescient or collapse over the next few weeks.
