Iran Accuses Israel of Attack on Egyptian Port Amid Regional Tensions

Earlier, two Iranian sources told the New York Times that the drone attack was intended to demonstrate potential disruptions to global shipping and energy supplies if Iran escalates the conflict. However, they did not clarify whether Iran or affiliated militias carried out the strike or the drones' origin. Egypt's government confirmed preliminary investigations found the fires resulted from drone strikes but no group claimed responsibility.

US President Donald Trump hinted Iran's involvement without providing details, warning of a strong US response. The attack expands the ongoing Middle East conflict but is not expected to significantly impact global energy markets, according to the New York Times. The report noted that if Iran extends attacks to Mediterranean shipping, it could further disrupt trade as shipping companies reassess risks at Egyptian ports. Investigations into the cause of the explosions continue, with the Greek-operated LNG tanker confirmed to have caught fire following the blast.
