Iranian Foreign Minister Accuses Israel of Attacking Egyptian Gas Tanker in Damietta Port

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused Israel of orchestrating the recent attack on a gas tanker at the Damietta port in Egypt. In a post on the social media platform X, Araghchi emphasized Egypt's importance as a regional partner and stressed the need for vigilance against what he described as Israeli conspiracies and false flag operations aimed at destabilizing regional peace. He warned that the threat is mutual and expressed concern over Muslim solidarity.

The incident involved explosions at a liquefied natural gas facility in Damietta, with reports from two security sources to Reuters suggesting that drone strikes may have targeted gas storage tankers. The British maritime security company Ambrey confirmed that the affected tankers were American-owned and that the explosions resulted from drone attacks. An Egyptian security source told the Saudi channel Al-Hadath that the Ministry of Petroleum has formed a committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

This accusation comes amid escalating tensions between Iran and Western countries, particularly following a recent unusual Ukrainian attack on an Iranian ship in the Caspian Sea, which Iran claims caused an explosion, resulting in one sailor's death and another's injury. Egypt's Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources reported no casualties in the Damietta incident. No party has yet claimed responsibility, and the Egyptian investigation is ongoing.
