Hamas Requests 15-Year Truce in Gaza in Letter to Trump, Israel Rejects Proposal

Nearly three years after the October 7 massacre, Hamas leadership sent a letter in English to then-US President Donald Trump requesting a 15-year hudna (truce) in the Gaza Strip. According to a report by Channel 13 on Thursday evening, Hamas expressed willingness to abide by the agreement and disarm, conditional on a long-term ceasefire during which Israel would halt attacks in Gaza, refrain from assassinating senior figures, and begin withdrawing its forces from the territory.

Israeli officials dismissed the proposal as a Hamas spin, stating the details do not align with the Trump plan signed in October of the previous year, and declared the offer has no chance of acceptance. Israeli sources described the move as a desperate attempt by Hamas to buy time and avoid being declared in violation of the Trump points agreement, which could permit Israel to resume military operations in Gaza.

Earlier, a diplomatic source noted that Gaza was not discussed during a meeting between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Trump. The source emphasized Israel’s firm demand for Hamas’s complete disarmament and the removal of all weapons from Gaza as a precondition for any process. The source also mentioned that Israel had already submitted its objections regarding the "15 points" document to envoy Tony Blair, underscoring that Israel will not cross its red lines in Gaza before Hamas is disarmed and the area demilitarized.
