Rabbi Moshe Eiseman Passes Away at 98, Renowned Educator and Community Leader

Rabbi Moshe Eiseman, a respected Torah scholar and educator, passed away this week in Modiin Illit at the age of 98. Born in Germany to Rabbi Shmuel Halevi Eisenman, he escaped to England as a child during Kristallnacht via the Kindertransport, later moving to Switzerland where he dedicated over 30 years to educating hundreds of students. Known for his devotion to Torah and community, Rabbi Eiseman served as a prayer leader for decades and was deeply committed to inspiring Jewish observance.

Around 30 years ago, he settled in Kiryat Sefer, Israel, and even in his seventies spent several months in Kishinev, Moldova, despite difficult living conditions, to encourage Jewish learning and practice. He was widowed approximately 20 years ago and is survived by his son Shmuel in Bnei Brak, and daughters residing in Kiryat Sefer and Antwerp. Despite declining health in recent years, he remained engaged in Torah study until his final days.

Rabbi Eiseman was hospitalized at Maayanei HaYeshua Medical Center three weeks before his passing. His funeral took place on Tuesday night, the 15th of Av, and he was buried at Har HaMenuchot in Jerusalem. His legacy as a devoted educator and spiritual guide continues through his family and students. May his soul be bound in the bond of life.
