Lufthansa Group Expands Flights to Israel Despite Security Concerns

Despite ongoing security concerns in Israel, the Lufthansa Group, one of Europe's largest airline groups, is significantly increasing its flight operations to Israel. Starting August 1, Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) will resume flights from Zurich to Tel Aviv for the first time since March, operating daily Airbus A330 wide-body aircraft.

Throughout August, the Lufthansa Group, which includes Lufthansa, SWISS, Eurowings, Austrian Airlines, and Brussels Airlines, plans to operate 54 weekly flights to and from Israel, nearly doubling the 29 weekly flights offered in July. Lufthansa itself will add two daily flights on the Munich-Tel Aviv route to its existing two daily Frankfurt-Tel Aviv flights. Austrian Airlines will increase its Vienna-Tel Aviv flights from 11 to 14 weekly, and Brussels Airlines will restart weekly service between Brussels and Tel Aviv.

This expansion aligns with a broader trend of foreign airlines returning to and increasing service to Israel in recent weeks. The increased flight availability is expected to enhance travel options for passengers flying to Europe and connecting to other global destinations. The move comes amid heightened traveler anxiety over potential security escalations and flight cancellations, yet the Lufthansa Group's decision signals confidence in the market's stability and demand.
