MK Sharren Haskel Summoned for Testimony Over State Comptroller Election Dispute

Israeli Member of Knesset Sharren Haskel was summoned on Thursday to provide testimony to the Lahav 433 police unit regarding the parliamentary vote for the State Comptroller position. This follows instructions from Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara and State Prosecutor Amit Isman to investigate whether the Likud party or Haskel submitted a false affidavit to the Supreme Court concerning the filming of votes during the election for State Comptroller in the Knesset plenary.

The investigation stems from claims that Likud members falsely stated in court that no instructions were given to film themselves voting, which was a key issue in the election of Michael Regev to the position. The Supreme Court invalidated Regev's appointment after ruling that Knesset members violated the law by filming their votes, compromising ballot secrecy.

While the Likud party declared in court that no one ordered members to record their votes and that those who did so acted voluntarily, Haskel's supplementary affidavit contradicted this by stating that members were instructed to film themselves and that the footage was sent to the Prime Minister. Due to this direct contradiction, the Attorney General ordered the police to take an open testimony from Haskel, not as a suspect. Depending on her statements, authorities may decide to open a criminal investigation on suspicion of submitting a false affidavit to the Supreme Court regarding the State Comptroller election.
