Israeli Renovator Designs Sliding Door to Hide Unsightly Electrical Cabinets in New Apartments

In many new Israeli apartments, the white plastic electrical and communication cabinets near the entrance disrupt the modern interior design. These cabinets, essential for maintenance access, often clash with the clean aesthetic homeowners desire. To address this common issue, an Israeli renovator developed a practical and stylish solution: a custom sliding door that conceals the cabinets while maintaining full accessibility.

The idea originated when an interior designer requested a solution for a client renovating a new apartment in Kfar Saba. The sliding door, measuring 80 cm wide by 265 cm high and made from 16 mm thick birch plywood, replaces bulky hinged doors that take up space. It features modern wood paneling to blend seamlessly with the apartment’s design, creating a minimalist look instead of exposing standard plastic cabinets.

The project costs under 900 shekels for materials and requires moderate to advanced carpentry skills, taking about two days to complete. Installation involves mounting sliding rails on wooden beams fixed to the wall, allowing smooth door movement without friction against the cabinets. The renovator emphasized that the cabinets must remain fully accessible for maintenance, so the door design balances aesthetics with functionality.

This inventive approach offers homeowners a cost-effective way to enhance their apartment’s entrance area without expensive custom carpentry or compromising access to essential electrical infrastructure.
