35 Ashdod Children Celebrate Completing Entire Talmudic Tractates Together

By כיכר השבת

The story · English

In Ashdod, a moving and uplifting ceremony was held this week to honor 35 young students from the Kollel Hasidic Talmud Torah in neighborhood Zayin who completed the entire Talmudic tractates (Shas) through the special Daf Yomi B'Mishnayot study program. The event’s remarkable story began with one student’s independent initiative to study the Mishnayot, which inspired friends to join, eventually growing into a class-wide learning project involving 35 children.

The grand celebration featured the presence of prominent Hasidic rebbes and rabbis from the city, including leaders from Pittsburgh, Shomrei Emunim, and Tolna communities, who offered praise and encouragement to the young learners. During the event, one of the top students was honored, and the Shomrei Emunim Rebbe recited the Kaddish prayer, followed by enthusiastic dancing in honor of the Torah.

Rabbi Shmuel Halperin, chairman of the organizing body, delivered the main address, expressing deep emotion at seeing the children dedicate their time during the "bein hazmanim" vacation period to study rather than leisure. He described the event as a spiritually significant occasion that brings blessings to all of Israel. The students received certificates of appreciation and elegant silver trophies, with special recognition awarded to the young boy who initiated the entire learning project.
