Google Rolls Out Practical Android Updates Including Natural Language Search and Quick Payments

Google announced a series of practical updates for Android devices rolling out throughout July. These improvements affect Google Play Store, system services, payments, and device security, delivered via Google Play services and system components rather than full Android OS updates.

Key changes in the Google Play Store include support for natural language queries and an expanded two-line search bar, allowing users to search more freely beyond exact app names or categories. Additionally, users can now add an app’s widget directly to the home screen during installation, eliminating the previous need to manually locate widgets after installing apps that support them.

Security enhancements include the ability to view the device’s IMEI number directly from the lock screen, facilitating phone identification, reporting lost devices, or contacting carriers without unlocking the phone. For Pixel Watch users, a new feature enables quick payments directly from the watch without completing the process on a phone.

Google Play also introduces a new feature displaying popular comics in a short, scrollable format before accessing the full version. These updates are being gradually distributed and may not be immediately available in all countries or on all devices. Google cautions that listing a feature does not guarantee immediate availability, as rollout can take weeks or months.
