Israeli UN Envoy Warns Israel Won't Wait for International Action Against Hamas

Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, addressed the UN Security Council on Tuesday regarding the escalating tensions in the Gaza Strip. Danon emphasized that Israel will no longer wait for international intervention against Hamas, stating that while Israel has upheld its commitments, Hamas has refused to disarm and continues to choose terrorism. "For months the world has waited for Hamas to change. It has not changed. It refused to disarm, rejected all proposals, and continues to choose terror," Danon said.

He stressed that Israel understands what others have yet to accept: no one else will disarm Hamas on Israel's behalf. "The responsibility lies with us, and we will fulfill it. Hamas will be disarmed so it can no longer threaten Israeli citizens or the region's future," he declared.

Responding to criticism from some Security Council members regarding restrictions on dual-use goods entering Gaza, Danon accused them of hypocrisy. He argued that Israel is being asked to supply materials that Hamas converts into rockets and tunnels, pointing out that Hamas itself boasts about turning water pipes into missiles. "Israel will not be a supplier of raw materials to a terrorist organization," he concluded. "As long as Hamas controls Gaza, we will not allow it to rearm or provide it with the means for the next massacre."
