IDF Reports Significant Rise in Haredi Enlistment Over Past Year

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have reported a notable increase in the number of Haredi (ultra-Orthodox) recruits over the past year. According to data compiled by the IDF's Personnel Directorate and shared with ynet, enlistment figures have risen by more than 1,000 annually since July of the previous year. Before the outbreak of the current conflict, approximately 1,700 Haredi recruits joined the IDF each year. This number grew to about 2,200 in the first year of the war (up to July 2024), then to roughly 2,800 in the following year (up to July 2025). In the most recent year, the figure surged to over 4,000 recruits.

Military officials attribute this significant growth primarily to stricter enforcement measures and sanctions targeting young Haredim who are not engaged in Torah study. These policies have reportedly encouraged more ultra-Orthodox youth to enlist in the military. The upward trend reflects a shift in recruitment dynamics amid ongoing security challenges faced by Israel.
