Hapoel Haifa Signs Midfielder Shay Elias in Key Career Move

Hapoel Haifa secured one of their most significant signings in recent years by acquiring midfielder Shay Elias, who joined the club after four seasons with Hapoel Be'er Sheva and winning a championship there. Elias, now a free agent, decided to sign with Hapoel Haifa despite the team not being a title contender, marking a surprising transfer this summer.

The move was heavily influenced by former teammate Alon Turgeman and coach Haim Silvas, who both advocated strongly for Elias's addition to the squad. Silvas engaged in intense negotiations with Elias over two weeks, maintaining daily contact even while Elias was in the United States supporting his ailing father. The club promised Elias a leadership role and a key position in midfield, which he sought after a season of fluctuating between starting and bench roles.

Hapoel Haifa's management described the signing as "a steal," emphasizing that Elias is joining the club at the peak of his career at age 27. The club worked closely with Elias and his agent, Boaz Goren, to finalize the deal. Owner Yoav Katz approved the contract, which is for one season with an option for a second, reportedly paying Elias around 180,000 euros, comparable to his previous salary at Hapoel Be'er Sheva.

This signing reflects Hapoel Haifa's ambition to strengthen their midfield and leadership ahead of the new season, with Elias expected to be a dominant figure on the team.
