Hapoel Be'er Sheva to Part Ways with Midfielder Shay Elias After Four Seasons
Hapoel Be'er Sheva is set to officially announce the departure of midfielder Shay Elias, a key player for the club in recent years. Elias, who joined from Hapoel Tel Aviv in the summer of 2022, completed a four-season contract and had hoped to continue for a fifth. Although he was not a regular starter in the past two seasons, he participated in 24 league matches. Despite his desire to stay, Elias did not join the team for their training camp in Poland and is expected to seek a new club in Europe. After the season ended, Elias and his representatives met with club officials, who offered a new contract, but the terms did not meet his salary expectations, halting negotiations.
Another player likely to leave is goalkeeper Niv Eliasi, who still has a contract with Be'er Sheva and will attend the training camp. His representatives are looking for a European club that can cover his current contract. Meanwhile, the club is closely monitoring Senegal's national team at the World Cup, where former Maccabi Haifa defender Abdoulaye Seck is playing. Be'er Sheva is interested in signing Seck, who was not renewed by Haifa for another season. Official negotiations are expected to begin after Senegal's World Cup campaign concludes.
Seck, who did not play in Senegal's first two World Cup matches, started in the 5-0 win over Iraq, contributing to the opening goal that secured Senegal's place in the knockout stage against Belgium. The club values his international experience and believes he could strengthen their defense and mentor young Senegalese defender Jibril Diop.
