Hapoel Haifa's summer preparations this year contrast sharply with last season's chaotic start. Last summer, the club's training sessions were sparse and disorganized, with fewer than ten field players present and owner Yoav Katz announcing budget cuts and a step back from investment. This late and unstable squad building negatively impacted the team's performance throughout the previous season.

This summer, however, the atmosphere is notably different. Katz has accelerated negotiations and completed about 95 percent of the squad before the season's start, a significant improvement over past years when talks dragged into September. The club retained the core players favored by coach Haim Silvas and made surprising signings such as Shay Elias and William Agada. According to club insiders, Katz, while not fundamentally changing his approach, has given Silvas considerable freedom to shape the team.

The recruitment strategy has also shifted. Instead of signing aging stars with declining careers, the club now focuses on players in their prime or young talents hungry to prove themselves. For example, when midfielder Dor Micha was offered, the club chose to pass on him in favor of lesser-known but more motivated players. This approach aims to build a competitive and ambitious squad rather than relying on big names past their peak.

Hapoel Haifa's promising preseason results, including a fifth-place finish in the Toto Cup and impressive derby wins over Maccabi Haifa and reigning champions Hapoel Be'er Sheva, have generated optimism among fans and players. Still, the team acknowledges that the real test lies ahead in the league. The club's opening match was postponed, but the challenging schedule underscores the need for a strong start to build confidence and cohesion. Players emphasize that maintaining last season's core and the improved preparation create a foundation, but success depends on their performance on the pitch.
