Israel Airports Authority Denies Staffing Shortages at Ben Gurion Airport Amid Operational Challenges

The Israel Airports Authority (IAA) issued a firm statement on Tuesday denying recent reports about a shortage of personnel at Ben Gurion Airport. According to the official announcement, the airport continues to operate normally with very high activity levels, handling approximately 90,000 to 100,000 passengers daily. This volume reflects a full recovery of Israel's civil aviation sector following a challenging period linked to security concerns.

The IAA emphasized that workforce management is conducted routinely and in line with operational needs, with no unusual staff shortages. The authority is actively recruiting new employees and maintains close cooperation with the workers' union to ensure quality service despite the current constraints. This collaboration is crucial as Ben Gurion operates solely from Terminal 3 after the temporary closure of Terminal 1 due to security-related operational changes.

Looking ahead, the IAA confirmed it is fully prepared for the upcoming peak travel season. Passenger traffic has recently reached record levels, with nearly 20 million travelers passing through Ben Gurion in 2025. Projections for 2026 anticipate continued growth, expecting around 22 million international passengers. The clarification from the IAA comes in response to recent reports suggesting operational difficulties, which the authority categorically rejects, reaffirming its ability to maintain uninterrupted and high-quality service even during busy periods.
