US Warns Hezbollah of Severe Consequences Ahead of Israel-Lebanon Talks in Rome

Scheduled talks between Israel and Lebanon in Rome early this month will focus primarily on determining which body will oversee the implementation of a regional pilot security zone in southern Lebanon. Lebanon insists that the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) should supervise the pilot area, but Israel remains skeptical due to past experiences. The United States has informed both parties that it refuses to deploy its own forces in southern Lebanon for monitoring purposes, citing previous risks.

Additionally, Lebanon has received a stern warning from the US conveyed through diplomatic channels, stating that Hezbollah will face severe repercussions if it intervenes on Iran's behalf in any future US-led conflict or launches attacks against Israel. The message emphasized that any rocket or drone strike against Israel would unleash "the gates of hell" on Hezbollah and Lebanon, with fighting extending beyond the southern Litani River area. In such a scenario, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would not heed US President Donald Trump's requests to halt hostilities, nor would Trump respond to Lebanese appeals to end the war, as a decision would already be in place to dismantle Hezbollah and its allies with US backing.

Meanwhile, Beirut is expected to host several Arab diplomatic visits this week, including Saudi envoy Prince Yazid bin Farhan and Qatari envoy Mohammed Al-Khalifi. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun plans to visit Turkey later this month to discuss regional developments and Lebanon's position amid the unfolding events.

These developments come amid ongoing tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border since the ceasefire took effect. The pilot zones aim to test security arrangements, including removing Hezbollah elements and increasing international oversight. However, disagreement over the supervising authority remains a key sticking point for the upcoming Rome discussions.
