Israel Warns Hezbollah May Escalate Attacks Amid New US Sanctions

Israeli security officials have observed Hezbollah intensifying efforts to target Israel Defense Forces (IDF) operating inside southern Lebanon, including attempts to plant explosives. This escalation is linked to the current volatile situation in Lebanon, with Hezbollah reportedly planning broader attack strategies against Israeli troops in the area. However, the group has so far refrained from fully escalating due to concerns over a significant Israeli military response.

Security sources told Channel 12 that if Hezbollah proceeds with increased attacks, Israel will respond forcefully. One official described the current calm in northern Israel as deceptive and warned that external actors might provoke disruptions. The tension centers around the Al-Taher ridge, a complex area where IDF forces operate and which Hezbollah militants find particularly provocative.

This situation unfolds amid ongoing Israeli-Lebanese talks on one hand and continued Israeli military operations dismantling Hezbollah infrastructure on the other, placing the militant group in a difficult position. Concurrently, the United States imposed new sanctions on Hezbollah, aiming to highlight its role as an Iranian proxy and to update its public designation. The US also sanctioned ten individuals accused of facilitating financial transfers for Hezbollah.
