President Herzog Condemns Violence Against Channel 12 News, Urges Police Action

Israeli President Isaac Herzog spoke on Tuesday with Police Commissioner Major General Dany Levi following a second violent attack within a month against the offices of Channel 12 News in Tel Aviv. The latest incident involved the smashing of glass doors at the news outlet’s entrance and the placement of a threatening letter linking the attack to the Shde Teiman affair, demanding an apology and containing threats against journalists and senior officials.

Herzog emphasized the severity of these repeated attacks and the threats directed at media personnel, stating that violence must not be used to intimidate journalists or silence opinions in Israeli society. He called for swift and decisive action to identify and prosecute those responsible, underscoring the need for authorities to send a clear message of zero tolerance toward violence, threats, and intimidation against the press.

Police Commissioner Levi responded by acknowledging the gravity of the situation and announced plans to hold an urgent discussion on the matter. This is the second such attack on Channel 12 News offices in less than a month; a similar incident occurred on July 5, and no suspects have yet been arrested. Herzog reiterated that harming any media outlet is an attack on democracy itself.
