IDF Unveils AI-Based Radar and Surveillance Systems Enhancing Border Security
Israeli defense company ESC BAZ recently showcased groundbreaking AI-powered border defense technologies to senior IDF and security officials. These systems were developed based on lessons from the October 7 attacks and three years of ongoing conflict, aiming to significantly enhance surveillance and threat detection along Israel's borders.
The first system, "Low Grip," created in collaboration with the Ministry of Defense's Mafat under Danny Gold's leadership, is already deployed along Israel's borders. It combines artificial intelligence with electro-optical radar to monitor extensive areas, delivering exceptionally clear images even at night, effectively "turning night into day." This system is considered a global breakthrough due to its high-resolution nighttime imaging.
Another system, Guard Sense, integrates SIGINT intelligence capabilities to detect radiation-emitting devices like cell phones and radios. It can identify suspicious movements and patterns in dense or urban environments, track suspects or vehicles, and provide layered intelligence previously unavailable to observation command centers. Guard Sense was recently revealed near one of Israel's borders.
Additionally, ESC BAZ developed a 360-degree panoramic camera system installed on Namer armored personnel carriers and Merkava tanks, with plans to equip new armored vehicles. This AI-enabled system alerts troops inside vehicles to approaching threats, including drones and potential bomb attacks.
The fourth system, Aviv-SR, demonstrated to senior IDF Southern Command leaders, combines advanced radar with long-range observation capabilities. It can be deployed on tripods in strategic locations or mounted on light and armored vehicles near infiltration points, enhancing early detection and response.
These innovations reflect the IDF's commitment to leveraging AI and advanced technology to secure Israel's borders more effectively and protect its forces from emerging threats.
