East Jerusalem Sanitation Worker Shot Dead by Border Police Officer After Arrest Attempt
Khalil Al-Rashaq, a resident of East Jerusalem and father of two daughters, was shot and killed by a Border Police officer on Thursday, according to a report by Channel 13 on Monday evening. Witnesses among the officers stated that Al-Rashaq did not comply with calls to stop, leading to the execution of a suspect arrest procedure during which he was shot in the leg. A photo shows him lying on the ground, and family members claim he did not receive medical treatment for a long time, resulting in fatal blood loss.
Al-Rashaq had been struggling with mental health issues, exacerbated by a previous assault and epilepsy. About six months earlier, he gave an interview to Channel 13 describing how he was violently attacked by two youths in Jerusalem, who punched and kicked him as part of a violent TikTok trend. The suspects had dismissed the attack as "just a random assault."
