Israeli Police Remove Six Unsafe Buses in Heavy Vehicle Inspection Near Beit Shemesh

The Heavy Vehicle Unit of the Israeli Traffic Department conducted a safety enforcement operation on Monday near Har Tov, close to Beit Shemesh, uncovering multiple safety violations in buses used for passenger transport. The crackdown was part of increased road safety efforts during the summer vacation period, which sees higher traffic volumes and more vehicles on the roads.

During the inspections, six buses were taken off the road due to serious mechanical defects. Additional violations found in other buses included licensing issues, tachograph malfunctions, and one driver caught using a mobile phone while driving. In total, 12 buses were inspected and found to have safety deficiencies that could endanger passengers.

The police emphasized that public transportation safety is a shared responsibility between bus companies and drivers. They warned that "a faulty bus or a driver who does not comply with the law can turn a routine trip into a disaster." The Traffic Department pledged to continue rigorous enforcement to ensure passenger safety and prevent fatal road accidents.

This operation highlights ongoing concerns about vehicle safety on Israeli roads, especially during peak travel seasons, and the authorities’ commitment to reducing risks for commuters.
