Elad Gabbay Leads Musical Rendition of Rabbi Israel Najara’s Piyyut 'Yedidi Roi'
Elad Gabbay performs and musically directs the piyyut "Yedidi Roi" by Rabbi Israel Najara as part of the "Chibat HaPiyut" project. The piece, marked "Israel Chazak B," is rendered in Maqam Saba and reflects on the people of Israel as sheep without a shepherd, yearning for the redemption of their shepherd, King David.
The "Chibat HaPiyut" initiative was established by the Jerusalem Chibat Center and the Zalman Shazar Center, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture. It features an extensive collection of piyyutim from various Jewish communities, focusing on the Jewish calendar and the human life cycle. The project is managed by Eliyahu Gabbay and Yossi Ohana from the Chibat Center, alongside Ohad Zimran and Tzila Bitterman from the Zalman Shazar Center.
The production was led by Zacharia Kozlov and included contributions from Amit Sharon on percussion, Eliyahu Dagmi on baglama, Gil Shapira on guitar, Aharon Menachem handling recording and mixing, and Yaakov Yanai Line responsible for filming and directing.
