MK Hili Tropper Opposes Territorial Concessions and Criminal Sanctions on Ultra-Orthodox Draft Evasion

MK Hili Tropper, chairman of the Zionist Home party and the "Zionist Home Reservists" list, spoke in an interview with Srugim about key political and security issues including settlement policy, ultra-Orthodox military conscription, judicial reform, and the possibility of forming the next government. Tropper firmly stated that his party will not join any government that divides the Land of Israel or evacuates settlements in Judea and Samaria, emphasizing the importance of strengthening the settlement enterprise.

Tropper clarified that his party seeks to represent a broad Zionist agenda beyond settlements, including education and social issues. He positioned the party as a home for "true religious Zionism," distancing it from ultra-Orthodox alliances and criticizing the current religious Zionist leadership for failing to represent significant voices in the sector.

Regarding the ultra-Orthodox draft crisis, Tropper opposed criminal sanctions but supported economic pressures, arguing that those who choose not to serve should not receive state funding. He rejected joining a government that maintains the "Torato Omanuto" arrangement, which exempts many ultra-Orthodox from service, citing national security concerns. He also endorsed national service alternatives and praised the rise in religious women's military enlistment.

On the issue of mixed-gender military service, Tropper called on the IDF to accommodate religious soldiers' lifestyles and expressed opposition to draft evasion. He avoided ruling out potential coalition partners but insisted on a Zionist government committed to three principles: the Land of Israel, Torah of Israel, and the army.

Tropper also addressed judicial reform, acknowledging the need for changes to balance powers between branches of government. He criticized the excessive authority of legal advisors, recalling his own failed attempt to dismiss one while serving as a minister. However, he opposed splitting the roles of attorney general and legal advisor and supported diversifying the Supreme Court's composition.

Responding to claims he acts on behalf of former IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot, Tropper asserted his political independence and focus on representing Israelis without a political home. When asked about future leadership preferences, he declined to speculate on a choice between Eizenkot and Naftali Bennett, calling such discussions premature.
