Matthew Strazel Joins Anadolu Efes After EuroLeague Interest From Multiple Teams
Matthew Strazel, a 23-year-old guard, has signed with Turkish club Anadolu Efes after a highly sought-after summer in the EuroLeague. In an interview with First Team, Strazel revealed that all EuroLeague teams except Panathinaikos and Hapoel Tel Aviv expressed interest in him. He chose Anadolu Efes because he wanted to join a competitive team where he could also take on a significant role, describing the club as the ideal balance for his ambitions.
Strazel made a major leap last season with Monaco, becoming one of their key players. He averaged 9.2 points per game on efficient shooting splits (51.2% two-point, 36% three-point, 84% free throws), along with 3.9 assists and 1.9 rebounds in just over 24 minutes per game. Despite Monaco's challenging season, Strazel was a bright spot for the team.
The upcoming season will mark Strazel's eighth in the EuroLeague, having previously played for Villeurbanne from 2019 to 2022 before moving to Monaco. This move to Anadolu Efes will be his first professional experience outside France, where he will join teammate Mike James.
