Mike James has decided on his next stop after helping Monaco win the French championship on Tuesday night. The EuroLeague’s all-time leading scorer was previously close to Barcelona, but those talks collapsed, and he has now reached an agreement with Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
According to a report in the Greek newspaper Gazzetta, Dubai is expected to be James’ final career destination. He is also set to reunite with coach Chavi Pascual, who tried to bring him to Barcelona and is now expected to leave the Catalan club, with Dubai likely to be his next job as well.
The report said James had already agreed with Pascual to join Barcelona before Dubai entered the picture. He was supposed to receive 3 million euros for two years in Barcelona, but Pascual’s expected departure after the finals sped up the deal with Dubai. James is expected to be officially announced soon.
Dubai is reportedly building one of the most expensive rosters in EuroLeague history. The club also made an offer to Shane Larkin, but he wants to stay in Turkey and continue with Fenerbahce. James will join a star-studded team that already includes Dzanan Musa, Mfiondu Kabengele, Filip Petrusev and McKinley Wright.
