EuroLeague transfer market heats up as major deals are already done
Just three weeks after the EuroLeague Final Four, Europe’s transfer market is moving at unusual speed, according to a Eurohoops list of 10 top free agents who have already left the market, even if some moves are not yet official. Some deals were completed during the playoffs, while others are waiting only for a formal signature or announcement.
Among the biggest names, Sylvain Francisco is headed from Zalgiris to ASVEL in a record-breaking move for the French club, after considering the NBA and talks about Barcelona, with the lure of a return home and working under Tony Parker helping decide the move. Mike James, who turned 36 in August, is widely expected to leave Monaco for Barcelona after publicly parting ways with the club, despite earlier denials and financial problems in Monaco.
Eurohoops also reports that guard Cody Miller-McIntyre has already agreed a three-year deal with Olympiacos from Crvena Zvezda, where he would join Sasha Vezenkov in Athens. Moses Wright, another Zalgiris player, is nearly locked in for Barcelona after a strong season in Lithuania, while Elie Okobo has reportedly already agreed to join Dubai from Monaco, with the first reports dating back to February.
Chris Jones is expected to leave Hapoel Tel Aviv for Crvena Zvezda on a one-year contract with an option for a second season, with the official announcement delayed until Hapoel’s campaign ends. Not every move is an exit: Nicolo Melli has a deal to stay at Fenerbahce, Jordan Loyd has reached terms on a new contract with Anadolu Efes, and Trent Forrest is set to move from Baskonia to Fenerbahce after a strong season in Spain. Alec Peters, who starred for Olympiacos at the Final Four, is also believed to be on his way to Milano despite a last attempt by Olympiacos to keep him.
