Zeev Elkin Criticizes Bennett and Democratic Party Silence Over Yair Golan Remarks

Israeli Minister Zeev Elkin sharply criticized former IDF Chief Gadi Eisenkot, Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, and the Democratic Party for their silence regarding controversial statements made by Yair Golan, leader of the Democratic Party. In an interview with journalist Sharon Gal on Galei Yisrael radio, Elkin said the Democratic Party's platform closely resembles that of the Hadash party, noting that the differences are barely visible. He emphasized that this similarity extends beyond Golan to other prominent members of the party.

Elkin explained that the political calculation behind Bennett and his allies' silence is clear: without Yair Golan, they have no chance of forming a government. Therefore, they tolerate any shocking remarks Golan makes. Elkin questioned what new ideas Golan could possibly bring to the table.

Further intensifying his critique, Elkin linked the positions of center-left leaders, stating that if Golan advocates accepting a nuclear Iran, Eisenkot has expressed similar views. He also mentioned that calls for establishing a Palestinian state, often voiced by those supporting separation from Palestinians, inevitably lead to that outcome. Elkin's comments highlight deep political divisions and strategic alliances shaping Israel's current political landscape.
