Eight New Settlements Established in West Bank Since Friday Attack, IDF Weighs Response

Since the terrorist attack on Friday in the village of Tal in the West Bank, eight new Israeli outposts have been established in the Samaria region, according to a report by Galei Tzahal on Monday morning. In the past 24 hours alone, two additional outposts were set up near Nablus; one in Area B between Deir Estia and Emmanuel, and another in Area C west of Deir Ballut. These two join six others created over the weekend, bringing the total to eight new outposts since the attack. Of these, two are located in Area B and the rest in Area C, with most built on privately owned Palestinian land.

The IDF Central Command Chief, Major General Avi Blot, has not yet exercised his authority to evacuate these outposts. While evacuations in Area B do not require political approval, and the commander can order removals in Area C if there is a security justification, the military stated that any decision to dismantle the outposts will be made based on situational assessments and directives from the political echelon. This cautious approach reflects the sensitive security and political considerations following the recent attack.

The establishment of these outposts is seen as a direct response to the attack, highlighting ongoing tensions and the complex dynamics of settlement activity in the West Bank. The IDF's pending decisions on potential evacuations will be closely monitored as the situation develops.
