Rising Israeli Presence in Cyprus Sparks Local Concerns Over Housing and Politics

In recent years, Cyprus has seen a significant increase in Israeli tourists, real estate investors, and families relocating to the island, particularly in cities like Limassol, Paphos, and Larnaca. This growing Israeli presence has sparked local concerns about its impact on the housing market and public spaces. A Cypriot resident shared on social media that during a brief visit, he overheard two women in Limassol discussing how Israelis have "bought entire neighborhoods and residential complexes." He also claimed that in some housing projects, properties are sold exclusively to Israelis, excluding Cypriot citizens and other nationalities.

The phenomenon extends beyond real estate into the political sphere. The same resident pointed out a large election billboard in Hebrew promoting the Israeli political party "Yesh" and its leader, former IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot, targeting Israeli voters on the island. He questioned how such a foreign political advertisement would be received in European cities like Berlin or Dublin, highlighting concerns about national sovereignty and cultural identity.

Cyprus has become a favored destination for Israelis due to its geographic proximity, business ties, and a Western, safe environment.
