Rami Levy Offers Cheapest Online Grocery Shopping Compared to Carrefour in Israel

A recent price comparison of online grocery shopping across major Israeli supermarket chains revealed significant cost differences, with Rami Levy offering the lowest prices and Carrefour the highest. The study examined a large shopping basket including dry goods, beverages, poultry, fruits, vegetables, dairy, cleaning products, and more. The total price gap between the cheapest and most expensive baskets reached 360.84 shekels, or about 22.5%. Rami Levy's online basket cost 1,605.55 shekels, while Carrefour's was 1,966.39 shekels.

Individual product prices also showed notable disparities. For example, fresh dark green peppers were priced at 6 shekels per kilogram at Rami Levy, nearly half the 11.90 shekels charged by Carrefour, a 98% difference. Similarly, a 500-gram package of Osem fusilli pasta cost 4.95 shekels at Rami Levy versus 7 shekels at Carrefour, a 41% price gap.

The report highlights that while online shopping saves time and effort, it can significantly increase the final bill if consumers do not compare prices across chains. For families shopping once or twice monthly, these differences could add up to thousands of shekels annually. Additionally, some supermarket chains have recently raised delivery fees, with minimum order amounts for free delivery increasing from 290.90 to 359.90 shekels, further raising costs for smaller orders.

The takeaway is that online grocery shopping is no longer automatically the most economical choice. Consumers are advised to compare prices and delivery fees before confirming purchases and consider splitting orders to save money. A few minutes of research can save hundreds of shekels per order.
